Mooses and mini-donuts · 25 July 04
Friday I left work early (3:45). My sister picked me up and drove me to the airport. 15 minutes later I was on a plane to Calgary. I slept all the way. I woke up in Calgary and had an hour to wander around, eat some greasy pizza and get back on a plane to Regina. I slept all the way. I woke up in Regina, got off the plane, ran to a washroom, then found a guy standing, waiting, with a sign that said “Festival of Words”. I shook his hand and was rushed into a minivan which hurtled down the road at great speed all the way to Moose Jaw. I talked the entire time. The minivan dropped me off at the back door of the high-school auditorium. I ran in, found the rest of Captain Tractor, plugged in my guitar, adjusted my mic stand and the lights dimmed. We played a curious set to a curious audience. It was a literary festival… why were we there?? I don’t know. It was a good time though. The next morning we got up and drove back to Edmonton. As we passed Regina I finally felt like I knew where I was for the first time in 16 hours.
Captain Tractor also played a couple shows on Sunday at Northlands park in the Molson Canadian Brewhouse (no brewing was to be seen). First show was hot and sweaty. Second show bordered on cold and wet. I ate a hotdog and two bags of mini-donuts. I am eating salad today.
